Our History

It is not possible to determine with certainty the date of birth of the Automobile Club Chieti.

The Yearbook car R.A.C.I. (Royal Automobile Club of Italy) in 1931 reveals, however, a group of existing shareholders in the Province of Chieti (about eighty - ninety) since 1927, date of establishment of the Public Motor Vehicle Registry and entrusting its management to the RACI itself.

In that year the Club was located in Largo Gian Gabriele Valignani. President Commendatore was the Marquis Raphael Martinetti Bianchi while holder of the PRA Baron Ferdinand was Health of Colledimacine.

As in many other cases, so even in Chieti the nobility was to take the reins of the first AC.

In 1931, the PRA office was moved to Palazzo Del Corso Marrucino in Monaco, while Chieti became the headquarters of the Automobile Club De Felice in Piazza Palazzo Durini.

It was not however possible to identify the year in which there was a transfer to the seat that will become "historical" Piazza Barbella 18.

Before the Second World War, the services were performed consisted in the collection of road tax and road improvement in the distribution of registration plates for motor vehicles, in the strengthening of the fee for the endorsement of driver's licenses.

In most social garage was run by the Automobile Club for a few cars then in issue is located in Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza moved later in Barbella - with the adjacent gas station at a reduced price - and the stands were guarded at first only in Piazza Garibaldi and then Piazza also Barbella.

At that time the annual membership fee was set at 150 pounds for ordinary members and 60 lire for those clusters.

The seat was also equipped with a school for drivers: a normal course costs 500 pounds, a swift 300 pounds.

In all those years, we cut out a large area, the figure of the director of services at, and Curator of the PRA, Giulio Valignani Barons of Turri, a character that will accompany the history of the Automobile Club Chieti for about two decades and especially during the lead World War II.

Just war is a disaster for the society: that is, the premises of the garage as social Barbella Square were seized, occupied and damaged by the Germans before, by the Liberation Forces and then a large part of the documents contained therein were lost.

It took great patience and the obstinacy of the Special Commissioner, the Duke of Castelluccio Antonio Caracciolo, to be able to regain possession at the end of a long legal battle, at least at the office.

The activity of the Automobile Club Chieti could restart only half of the year 1946 when it split from the capital of the AC of the RAP and could be called an election for the new Board of Directors in 1947.

On that occasion he was appointed President, the first post-war, the Duke of Castelluccio Antonio Caracciolo and resumed the custody business of the parking of Piazza and Piazza Barbella Vico.

But, suddenly, he returned to management commissioner, at first entrusted to Dr. Gian Renato midnight then the lawyer. Giuseppe Castiglione.

With it had gone from the director and the former members of the Council and at the same time, we undertook several profitable business: it signed a stake in the fledgling company "SARA Automotive Credit" to be more present on the vast territory it opened the first departments , one in Lancaster and one in Vasto, is home to some passages of the "Mille Miglia" races "Silver Wheel" were carried out, solemn "Blessings of the Motor Vehicle is in Chieti and Vasto that was installed in the stand Piazza Barbella, a distributor for the supply of fuel the exclusive property of the Automobile Club (1951).

In the assembly of 20 June 1951, which had 442 well-voting members, was elected President by acclamation, the lawyer. Giuseppe Castiglione.

Thanks to the Automobile Club Chieti he could return to normal activities.

It was set up a Sports Commission, chaired by Dr. Philip De Cecco, which became part of the young Captain Enrico Ricciardi, current Honorary President of the Club

It was decided to organize a car race, with international validity, reserved for sports cars up to 750 cc, called "Gran Criterium carts, to be played at the Circuit of the Villa Comunale, which was an extraordinary success.

Members share in 1953 exceeded five hundred, amounting to 503 to be exact.

A decade later he reached the figure of a thousand and it was decided to give the delegations also the service tax collection, first in Vasto (1965) then to Lancaster (1967).

In 1966 the members were now 1,433.

We programmed the publication of a journal called Social "News of the Automobile Club Chieti" and laid the groundwork for a campaign of road safety.

In 1967 it was open a driving school Automobile Club in the town of Vasto.

In the meantime, the best to fulfill all the tasks and activities assigned Automobile Club, the company moved to its current location of Piazza Garibaldi 3.

On December 4, 1966 with the President of ICA MO Bertetto, Undersecretary at the Ministry of the Interior Mr Remo Gaspari, of the sensor. De Luca and many other local authorities, we proceeded to the inauguration of new premises.

In itself, which had already hosted the Consorzio Agrario Provinciale, are still preserved three paintings depicting rural scenes, made directly on ceramic tiles set into the wall, the work of Tommaso Cascella and dated year 1948.

The approach of the '70s, marked by legislative changes which took away many powers to the AC and judicial events that enveloped the ICA headquarters, represented a period of serious difficulty for the Club

With great effort, some layoffs and the elimination of all non-major, you could return to a surplus in the budget only in 1975.

In 1987 was organized under the patronage of the Presidency of the ICA, a legal conference in memory of Guido Gentile, a great jurist, editor of "Civil liability and insurance, employee of the ICA for many years, an expert on issues of compensation damage in terms of the parameters of liquidation. Distinguished persons intervened, first of all the prof. Pratis.

In December 1994 he played a great award to all members of the Pioneers Guide (60-year license), Seniors (40 years of license) and Veterans of the steering wheel (50-year license) and the Company's Ladies Drivers (50 years license ) Ladies and Young Drivers (40-year license).

Same event was repeated 18 December 2005, but now ... it's recent history.
